Digital Practice International Workshop

A ten-day workshop connects parametric design, fabrication planning, and collective assembly through a full-scale pavilion.

Learning question
How can students carry digital design decisions through fabrication and full-scale assembly?
My role
Initiated the SIVA–University of Washington collaboration and co-taught the ten-day workshop.

Three full-scale student pavilions, documented in construction and exhibition photographs, were acquired by the Shanghai Museum of Trade. View evidence ↓

I initiated Digital Practice as a collaboration between the University of Washington’s Department of Architecture and the Shanghai Institute of Visual Art. The ten-day summer workshop took place on the SIVA campus with faculty from both institutions.

Teams applied digital tools to design development, information exchange, and fabrication. Case studies in Shanghai connected modeling decisions with the practical coordination needed to build at full scale.

The workshop produced three full-scale pavilions that the Shanghai Museum of Trade subsequently acquired for public display.
