About Teng

Teng Teng, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Architecture at Lawrence Technological University. His work connects computational design research with architectural practice and education.

His research develops materiality as an active dimension of computational design alongside morphology and topology. By designing material composition, spatial distribution, and transitions, he investigates how materials can tune structural and physical performance, generate form, and realize connections. He develops computational methods, fabrication systems, and physical experiments to translate spatially varying performance requirements into material arrangements that can be manufactured and tested. His architectural practice spans design, facade development, construction documentation, manufacturing coordination, and construction management, including project leadership as a development company founder. His teaching uses computation and physical making to help students understand how geometry, materials, connections, and forces shape structural behavior, and to test design decisions against physical results. His investigations in design interfaces and spatial history address physical interaction and urban memory.

Teng holds a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania and master’s degrees from Cornell University and the University of Washington. He has contributed to NSF- and DOE-sponsored research, with publications in Materials & Design, Advanced Functional Materials, Additive Manufacturing, and Building and Environment. He serves on the ACADIA Board of Directors and the Early Career Editorial Board of Architectural Intelligence.
