Mingyuan Li’s Power Walker and Chuou Zhang’s Leaf Chair document student investigations into movement, material, and use. View evidence ↓
Undergraduate product-design projects at the Shanghai Institute of Visual Art translate observations about everyday use into physical mechanisms and prototypes.
Mingyuan Li’s Power Walker investigates a walking-assistance device that combines a spring mechanism with shock absorption to reduce loading at the knee. The work is presented as a student design investigation. Furniture studies by Chuou Zhang extend the teaching into the relationship between the body, material, and use.
I supervised the students’ design development. Authorship of the individual designs remains with the students.
